Sharpening & Profiling Done With Care
A skate blade needs more than a quick pass through a machine. We take care with each pair we sharpen and can also provide skate profiling to help match the blade to the skater’s needs.
What is skate profiling?
Skate profiling is the process of changing the shape (contour) of the blade from heel to toe. It affects how much steel contacts the ice and where your balance point sits. Think of it as tuning how your skates interact with the ice.
How is it different from sharpening?
- Sharpening creates or restores the edges on the bottom of the blade and affects grip (“bite”) versus glide.
- Profiling changes the blade’s overall shape and contact length on the ice, affecting balance, stability, speed, and agility.
A simple way to remember it:
Sharpening = edges
Profiling = blade shape
